April 2008 - Social Report

  • 4/6/08 – “RCC Winter Cabin Fever Party”, 84 people attended this year’s edition of the Winter Cabin Fever Party on an absolutely beautiful day, hopefully saying goodbye to winter. The party was catered by the folks over at the “Red Osier”, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal, great job Red Osier. With the beautiful weather lots of people were outside looking at the Corvettes, 2 2008’s there, Popple’s and Goff’s and of course many other nice Vettes. Thanks go out to Don & Chris Chaffer who did a great job setting this up and also to Jim & Karen Mathis for the Wine Bar set-up. Also want to say thanks to Judy Capurso, Mathis’s, and everyone else who stayed and helped clean-up, and all those who brought all the delicious appetizers and desserts.

  • 4/17/08 – “Seneca Niagara Casino/Buffalo Day Trip”, we met at Wegmans Market Café for coffee and pastries before boarding our bus. One might expect to have a seat when traveling, especially on a bus, but such was not the case after I found out our 56 seat bus broke down early that morning and was replaced with a 49 seat bus. Problem was, I had reserved 52 seats to include RCC members and friends, the Northwest YMCA members and friends and Star Travel extras who wanted to join us. As luck would have it, we had a wonderful cooperative group who crammed themselves into seats and sat on the floor in the aisle, in order as not to miss their day at the casino. Even though it was tight, and we sometimes tumbled over those in the aisle, we shared conversations, jokes, snacks and eight raffles to make the trip enjoyable and fun. Later many met for Pizza and burgers at “Carmine’s” when we returned home. Traveling with us were two past Presidents and their spouses; Bob & Marie Harder, Carmela and Siggi Gallinat and past members up from Florida, Gary & Sandy Manuse. The casino bonus of $45.00 must have helped our gamblers luck because more than half of them came back with wins. It was exciting, memorable and a challenging event for me, but I got many requests to do the trip again. For those interested, Star Travel did contact me with apologies, and praise to all for the unusual circumstances we endured. (this article submitted by Julie Fella)

  • 4/27/08 - “Opening Day at The Glen”, great day, great cars, great people, great everything, 25 Corvettes left Wegmans on time headed for the Glen. 2 groups of 8 and 1 group of 9, Mitch was late. All took different routes, but met at the track at the same time this year, good! Two Corvettes from Pennsylvania met up at the track with the Popple group, very nice people. Everyone hung out waiting for the track run, we had some old members, current members and some soon to be members. Mike T. tried twice to pass Jim T., but alas Jim held him off. There were C3’s to C6’s with the C5’s grabbing the award for the total number at the event. Everyone enjoyed the run except those behind a car that apparently had some trouble, it wasn’t Popple. After the run, everyone hung out with wine, cheese and crackers waiting for the track pictures to become available. They did, some purchased them and some will hit the web site (me for one), Mac Holder graciously did an interview with a local TV station, thanks Mac, and then we were off for the second half of the day. John Och did a great job once again picking the wineries and the Castel Grisch or however you spell that took care of 29 folks with a smile, pictures latter after I download them (new camera still in training). Great food and great hosts, John once again out did himself. After lunch it was off to Fulkerson’s for 5 of the festive group, a great time there as well. Since one of the group didn’t drink, he got to see some Winery chaffered folks fall out of their limo and hit the lawn, pretty funny, based on the time of day Fulkerson’s was most likely the last stop, good thing. Anyway, all and all a GREAT day all the way around. Thanks to Johnny O for the 1st rate wine tour and for leading one of the groups from Wegmans, thanks to Toby for leading the other group from Wegmans, and thank you to Andrea for keeping the Popple group together through Geneva and Watkins Glen, great job! Most of all thanks to the members and non-members who attended the event, sorry for the bugs. (this article submitted by Steve Popple)

  • 4/28/08 – “RCC Club Meeting”, good size group of 72 members, although the weather was not good, so there was only 1 Corvette in the lot. Also had a couple of new members in attendance. Mitch Evans was named to the “Museum Ambassador” position, welcome Mitch, I’m sure he will do a fine job. Don’t forget, the May meeting is a week earlier on Monday, May 19th at 7:30pm.

Respectfully submitted,
